Cashew processing in Northern Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast has the world’s first cashew producer with +700,000 Metric tons (Mt) Raw Cashew Nuts (RCN), of which only 7% is processed in the country. In recent years, Ivory Coast adopted a policy and measures for investments in processing.

Ecookim Coop-ca is an Ivorian cooperative in cocoa and cashew, regrouping 23 cooperatives and +13,000 farmers. Ecookim aims to invest in processing in the region of Kabadougou in Northern Ivory Coast, where an active cooperative member SOCAPED  looks for a stable market for their RCN. Together with the public actor of the sub-department of Bougousso, national policy and local measures are implemented and monitored to enhance linkages between farmers and processors. Away4Africa co-invests in and supplies its expertise to the processing facility, while FairMatch Support assists on value chain organization.

The blend of Ivorian, West African and European expertise on production, processing and sector organization, from private, public and Non-Governmental Organistation perspective.

The blend of Ivorian, West African and European expertise on production, processing and sector organization, from private, public and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) perspective, constitutes a strong Private Public Partnership (PPP). The PPP aims for a system change in the cashew sector in the Kabadougou region. This by bringing together the relevant cashew stakeholders for collaboration and organization of the RCN supply. The intended improvement of the investment climate will secure the RCN supply for processing. This will enable farmers and private investors to invest in cashew production and processing.
